お好み焼き ~ 広島スタイル (Okonomiyaki ~ Hiroshima style)

I have decided to make Okonomiyaki (both Osaka and Hiroshima style) for next month's free-tasting menu. haha!

Since I have always been doing Osaka style of Okonomiyaki because it's easier, I realized that I need more practice on Hiroshima style. haha!

So, before "the day" comes, I better have more practices. That's why tonight I decided to have Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki for dinner. I was improvising ingredients, since it's the last minute desire for dinner. haha!

Here is a mini and brief tutorial of Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki. Since it's brief and mini, there is no measurements. haha! I eyed ball everything ^^; Enjoy~!

First, let's make the batter. It has all purpose flour, milk powder and baking powder.

Added dashi stock and water to create the batter.

Batter got to be not too thick nor runny.

Then, create a thin layer of batter on electric skillet pan.

Instead of usual shredded cabbage, which I don't have it tonight, I used shredded lettuce. hehe! I added leftover tuna and anchovies. Top it up with thin slices of pork.

Then, pour a little batter on top.

And flip it over. Yea, I know it's burnt. haha! I was too busy mingling around ^^;;

It's really thick. haha!

Then, at the side of it, cook a pack of yakisoba. Season it with sauce or anything you like. I used yakisoba sauce. Once it's cooked, make a round shape as shown.

Then, transfer the okonomiyaki on top of the yakisoba.

After that, at the side of it, crack an egg and swirled it around creating a thin omelette.

When it's half done, transfer the okonomiyaki on top of the egg.

It's getting thicker! haha! Flip it over again with egg facing up.

Finally, pour okonomiyaki sauce on top. I just love the sizzling sound from the sauce. hehe!

Add mayonnaise on top.

Last but not least, aonori (seaweed powder).

Tada! What do you guys think? Honestly, this is either my first or second time in making Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki. So, I was a bit nervous especially on the endless flipping. LOL! It can get really messy. haha!

Luckily, my brother was home soon after making this and hence I gave half of the Okonomiyaki. I am sharing the calories with him. *Shhhhh* haha!

Hope you have enjoyed my short mini and brief picture tutorial on Okonomiyaki.

Goodnight~!

[July bento] Domo-kun sandwich bento

It's about time to post up a video for this month. hehe!

I would really wish that I am able to make at least 1 video in every 2 weeks or 1 video per week.

However, that will be super taxing for me, unless my full time job is to make video on youtube. haha!

*Joke* Anyway, due to time restriction, I am going to upload a super easy video this month. >_<

*Feeling guilty now*

This video is about transforming a super normal tuna mayo into a cute sandwich bento.

This month's character is, DOMO-kun!!

Note: Image from search engine.

Here's a peek to it. Will upload the video as soon as possible.

Hmm.. yeah I know. Perhaps you might be thinking this doesn't look like domo. haha!

However, it does give you a hint of domo, no? >_<"" This month's okazu is, karaage, potato fry and natto rolled eggs. I have done karaage and potato before; hence video won't be showing these. I know it's mostly recycled side dishes but that's because I have a lot of extra ingredients left as these were what I made for my hairstylist to try this month as well. I made karaage bun, ebikatsu burger, yakisoba bun and korokke bun for him to try. Please excuse me for this month yeah.

Also, there are some viewers keep asking me on how to close the bento lid and such. So, this month I have prepared something that's able to close the lid and go. haha! Usually, the purpose of my video is for display; hence viewers are able to see clearly on the characters; hence I have never thought of closing the lid option.

So, there you go. Lid closed and you are off to go. hehe!

That's all from me. Please wait for the video! Thank you for visiting my blog today.

Yesterday's dinner + 2nd attempt

For those who have watched my bento tutorial for last month, actually yaki onigiri and kinpira renkon were my first attempt. haha!

My brother ate kinpira renkon and he said it's tasteless. Yaki onigiri, it's too oily. >_<

So, I made a 2nd attempt yesterday while I was preparing my own dinner (late dinner).

I must say, both kinpira renkon and yaki onigiri turned out to be so much better than my first attempt.

I increased the cooking time of kinpira renkon and yaki onigiri without adding any oil on the pan.

I made soy sauce and miso for yaki onigiri.

On the other hand, I made natto tamagoyaki. I wanted to eat natto and was thinking what will it like if I add it into my tamagoyaki? Turned out really good! Perhaps I will add this onto my new bento tutorial in the future. hehe!

That's all for this post. Thank you for reading.
